My great-great-grandfather Prince Albert 1st wished for Monaco to harbor an Oceanographic Museum with clear goals: “learn, cherish and protect the oceans”.
Today, this vision has proven its full relevance, modernity and cogency.
I am delighted by the initiative and the creation of the Friends of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco association.
The Oceanographic Museum is proud of its past and rich heritage, in stride with the times, open to the world and committed to the future of the oceans.
There is a genuine need for an association with members of various backgrounds to mobilise all energies and provide firm support to this Institute. Such broad involvement of civil society is essential to support Oceanographic Museum staff accomplish its mission as a mediator and protector of the oceans, a heritage which belongs to all humankind.
It is my hope that this Association will enable all those who share their love of the oceans to contribute to our Museum’s prestige and influence, in keeping with the Principality of Monaco’s commitment.
